Kids and Fashion

RECENTLY there has been much controversy caused in the press, about children dressing like adults in regards with fashion.

Now many fashion retailers sell "adult like" clothes for children, such as high heels, bras, crop tops, etc. However it is down to the parent’s approval, as to whether they think their children should be wearing them.

Sarah Burge is one mum who has recently been in the press and on ITV's, This Morning, for her "unconventional mothering skills." She first appeared in the press in 2008 for world record of undergoing the most plastic surgery, creating her self-styled image as a real Barbie.

However she has now returned to the press spotlight, as she has caused a storm of criticism for her parenting skills. Last year she taught her daughter how to pole dance and this year treated her to a £12,000 pampering party on her 7th birthday as well as vouchers for a boob job for when she hits her teens.

Sarah likes to encourage her daughter to look like her, by dressing her in short dresses and high heels, as well as teaches her to participate in activities to keep slim and fit by pole dancing and looking good by applying makeup, all at the age of seven.

Mother of three, Jackie Crick, explained how she, "completely disagrees with children at such a young age wearing inappropriate clothing and footwear, mainly because at that age the children are not fully developed, so by dressing them in high heels can be damaging to their feet in the future".

20 year old Jenny Magri, is a mother of two, and expressed how she would never consider dressing her three year old in anything but children's clothes.

"When I was little, there was no such thing as high heels and bras available, and I completely understand why. I will only dress my daughter in clothes similar to what I would wear when I was young. I would never consider letting her wear high heels or bras until she is fully developed."

However, 17 year old mum, Vikki Mead disagrees, "I’m more than happy to let my four year old wear little heels, as I only buy her shoes from high quality retailers, and have lots of faith in the quality of their goods.

"When i was young we never had this option, so I would result in putting my mum’s high heels, bras and jewellery on, because I wanted to be more like her. So I have no problem with Amelia dressing up, as I know it’s in good hands and until proved otherwise, believe it’s harmful."
